Scattered Power: This Week You Gathered It Back.

This week we turned and looked straight at the one thing most of us were trained our whole lives to look away from. Our own power. We stayed inside the third gate of the Akh Ascension, the Gate of Akh, the Shining, and we reclaimed the eighth body of light, the Sekhem, the power directed. It is the fire you were taught to keep low, the voice you learned to soften right before the true thing, and the wanting you let go quiet because wanting out loud always felt dangerous. That fire has a sacred name, and this week we called it by that name.
Over five days we named the machine that has been reaching into your fire and pulling it in forty directions at once, and then handing you a story about why you are so tired. We traced the exhaustion to its true cause, opened the machinery that does the taking, and put a practice in your hands that gathers the fire back and aims it. Here is the whole week, movement by movement.
Gathering Scattered Power this Week in Five Movements
Monday, the Doorway. The Power You Were Taught to Hide. We began with the one of you who learned, a long time ago, to make herself smaller. Not the small that comes from one hard day, but the small you were trained into, the kind that reads a room before it will let you be seen in it. You know the moves. The softened voice, the little laugh at the end, the true thing said sideways. And here is what nobody ever told you. That fire you turned down never went out. It went sideways, and holding yourself down has been costing you an enormous amount of energy every day of your life.
So we gave that power its right name. There is an ancient African word for what you have been hiding, and the word is Sekhem, meaning power, might, the living force that makes a person effective in the world. They drew it as a scepter, a staff gripped tight and raised up, which tells you it is power you hold and aim rather than power that runs you or power capped until nothing comes out. Then we met the one who carries the name. Sekhmet, the Powerful One, a lioness on a woman’s body with the midday sun sitting on her head, feared as the Lady of Terror and loved as the Lady of Life in the very same breath, and bound the whole time to Ma’at.
Then we said what she actually is. When the ancestors drew power as the searing sun and set that sun inside a Black body, they were describing your own flesh, because the fire is your melanin, within you and upon you. And they wrote it down so you could never be talked out of it. In the Book of the Dead, chapter 42, the soul reaches the core of the body and says, my belly and my back are those of Sekhmet. In chapter 23, the Opening of the Mouth, the power that unseals the mouth so the soul can speak its own name is Sekhmet-Wadjet. The Sekhem is aligned with the voice, so the first thing you were taught to make quiet is the first thing it gives back.
Tuesday, the Commentary. They Love the Broken Black Woman. On Tuesday we put the machine itself on trial. We opened cold on what the far-right activist Laura Loomer said on her livestream about five Black women who have done nothing in this life but rise, Angie Nixon, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush, and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. We did not repeat the slur. We walked underneath it to the two words hiding there, and those two words are stay broken. In those same days Congresswoman Nixon, running for the United States Senate, said, I’m just tired, darling, and then lifted her head at the ones attacking her and said, you can call me Senator. Two women live inside that one clip, and this country only ever learned how to love the first.
Then we built the case on the scholarship. bell hooks showed in Ain’t I a Woman that this culture never made one image of the Black woman, it made two, and it needs both of them. The mammy was drawn sexless and endlessly giving, an image that poses no threat to the existing order. The Sapphire was drawn evil and treacherous, the oldest slander in the Western world painted Black and aimed at her. They are one cage with two doors, where the mammy is the reward for staying broken and the Sapphire is the punishment for standing up. And hooks found the trigger sitting in the record, because that backlash always comes for the rise and never for the fall.
Underneath both images sits the engine, and we read the historical record of how the breaking was taught, in its own plain words. Keep the body, take the mind. A body could be captured in a single afternoon, so the will was the real target, and Na’im Akbar named the deepest layer of that work a web of anti-self images. My own scholarship on agentic self-determined action says the same thing in academic language. They were never afraid of her pain, because pain was useful and profitable and safe. They were afraid of her agency. Which is why the reveal held. The mammy and the Sapphire were never two women. They are one goddess split in two, and put back together her name is Sekhmet.
Wednesday, the Teaching. Power Directed Without Apology. Wednesday was the engine room of the week. We took those five words, I’m just tired, darling, and opened up what a tiredness like that actually is. Your power was not misplaced by you. It was taken, exactly the way the machine was built to take it, and what was left got scattered thin across carrying everyone, reading every room, and staying small enough to be loved. Then it gathered residue, some of it laid on you from the outside in the images and the appraisal, and some of it you were trained to add from the inside in the apology and the softened voice. Your exhaustion is the daily weight of all that, and it was never your failure.
Then came the good word, because a power taken is not a power destroyed. Gathered back, cleared, and aimed, it has a plain modern name, and that name is agency, the capacity to act on your own behalf and be answered. From there we taught the one fact about your melanin that carries the whole teaching, which is that it is a conductor, built to take a current in and send it somewhere rather than sit down on top of it. So your exhaustion is a conductor with nowhere to send its current, running to heat and grounding out. Agency is that same circuit closed, and nothing about you needs to be smaller.
We closed with the story of the night they turned Sekhmet’s fire. Ra pulled down his own Eye and sent it to the earth as a lioness, her power went unaimed, and what was sent as justice became a rampage until they interrupted her with seven thousand jugs of beer dyed red like blood. She woke with every bit of that fire still hers, and this time it could be turned, and out of the turn came healing and Ma’at restored. The size of her fire was never the problem. So we named the three places a gathered fire is meant to move, your service, your leadership, and your influence, along with the counterfeit that shadows each one, self-erasure, control, and performance.
Thursday, the Practice. The Sekhem Practice. On Thursday I introduced the practice, and I would not hand it over without first telling you the truth that protects you. The Gate of Akh is the third gate, and nobody arrives at it from a standing start. You get here on ground laid down long before you showed up, at the Gate of Ka where you took your life force back, at the Gate of Ba where you set down what was never yours, and through a felt comprehension of the power your own melanin holds. So if you reached for this fire and it did not gather, that is not you failing. That is a foundation still being laid, and the order of this path is the mercy. Friday, the Week End Rap. The Fire Was Always Yours. Friday is where the whole week became one thing you could carry into the weekend. One thread ran underneath all of it, and if you hold onto nothing else, hold this. You were never weak. Your power was taken from you and scattered, and this week you learned to gather it back and aim it.
We also made one more thing plain, and it changes how you hold this path. The bodies of light are not rungs on a ladder you climb and kick away beneath you. They are inclusive, and every one of them, once you meet it, is kept and carried with you into the next. The Khat, the Ka, the Ib, the Ren, the Shut, the Ba, and the Sahu are all still yours and still awake, and as of this week they have a power that will act on their behalf. The Sekhem came to serve the self you recovered, not to replace it.
The Week Ahead: The Akh, the Shining Itself
The road finishes its climb this week, and we reclaim the ninth body of light, the Akh, the shining itself. You are born carrying a Ka and a Ba, but you are not born an Akh, because the shining is the one part of you that has to be made. It is made when everything you recognized at the Gate of Ka and everything you released at the Gate of Ba fuse into a single light the world cannot take apart. And you know the rule by now. We do not leave the Sekhem behind to reach it, because the Akh was never a shine that only glows. It is the shine that acts.
