Research on stereotype threat, risk aversion, and uncertainty avoidance shows how workplaces and economic conditions produce much of Black women’s self-doubt. Career coaches and mentors can address it with three research-backed steps.

She performs at a level most people never reach, carries far more than anyone assigned her, and arrives with an exhaustion that rest does not touch. Most practitioners reach for the word burnout. It usually misses, and misdiagnosed power sends a practitioner in the wrong direction with the client who can least afford it.

The self that stays whole through the lost job, the hard season, the family storm, and the week the whole internet decides it knows who you are.

They erased our names to erase us. This week we reclaimed the Ren, your true name, and Nommo, the word that makes the thing. Speak yourself back into being.
